Proper Disposal Process of Your Flag

United State Flag Code States:
"The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."
The flag code does not provide specifics for destroying the flag, however, we suggest using common sense to ensure that the proper respect, dignity, and good taste are always provided to the flag.
There are many local organizations within your community that collect and dispose of flags properly, including:
  • American Legion
  • The Boy Scouts of America
  • The Girl Scouts of America
  • Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Halls)
  • Mayor/City Hall
  • Patriotic Organizations
